4 Tips for Celebrating a Veteran’s Life on Veterans Day
Each year on November 11th, we come together as a nation to honor our veterans for their service, patriotism, bravery, and sacrifice for our country. Stuhr Funeral Home is proud to assist families in giving their late veterans honorable funerals and burials, including military honors and funeral benefits. Veterans have done so much for our country, and it is our duty at Stuhr Funeral Home to honor their lives.
While Veterans Day is a somber day for many, it can also be looked at as an opportunity to celebrate the life of your veteran loved one. There are many ways to keep your beloved veteran, or multiple veterans, in your mind, heart, and spirit on Veterans Day while celebrating their life. Whether they are deceased or alive, November 11th is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on and honor a veteran’s sacrifice for our country. Here are three ways to do so…
1. American Flags
Placing American flags in your yard is an excellent way to celebrate a veteran’s life in your own home. This can be a family-friendly activity in which the whole family mentions something that they admire about their beloved veteran and places the flag in your yard. If your beloved veteran is deceased, visiting their burial site and placing a flag there is also a wonderful way to remember their lives. Perhaps there are multiple veterans that you wish to honor– you could place a flag in your yard for each one. Flying American flags at or around your home also displays appreciation and respect on this day.
2. Attending a Veterans Day Parade
Attending a local Veterans Day parade may be a great way to get out of the hole and find some enjoyment in remembering your beloved veteran on this day. Perhaps you could wear a special article of clothing to the parade that reminds you of your beloved veteran– or if they are still alive, bring them along. Either way; Veterans Day parades happen all across the country in many local communities, and are often thought of as lighthearted ways to participate in this day. While at the parade, consider asking veterans in attendance about their service if they’re comfortable. They’d love to share your appreciation for the day.

3. Write a Letter
In honor and celebration of your veteran’s life, consider writing a letter of appreciation for your living beloved veterans, or in honor of the deceased. Perhaps you could even write a letter of appreciation to an organization of veterans in honor of your late veteran loved one. Detailing your appreciation and respect for the sacrifice that veterans have made for this nation is an easy yet thoughtful way to celebrate a veteran’s life.
However, you choose to participate in Veterans Day, keep those who have paid the ultimate price for your country in your minds and hearts. Perhaps send condolences to the families of deceased veterans, or exchange photos of your beloved veterans with others who loved them, too. Keeping a veteran’s life alive in celebration will cast a positive life on a day that could otherwise be somber.
