5 Reasons to Donate Supplies to Fisher House for Veterans Day

Fisher House is a new resource for veterans and their families in Charleston County and it needs your help. Veterans who come to the VA Hospital for long-term treatments have families who need a place to stay and Fisher House provides that to them for free.

Fisher House and Stuhr Funeral Home are asking everyone in the greater Charleston area to donate needed supplies. They include laundry detergent, soap, snacks, toiletries and paper supplies.

Stuhr Funeral Home is collecting donations at three of their chapels—232 Calhoun St. in Charleston; 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. in Mt. Pleasant; and 3360 Glenn McConnell Blvd. in West Ashley.

The staff of Stuhr Funeral Home is doing its own supply drive for Fisher House as well.

Here are five reasons this is a good idea:

  1. Veterans Give So Much
For the brave men and women who volunteer to give what Abraham Lincoln called, “the last full measure of their devotion,” making their families comfortable during their long hospital stay is the least we can do. Roughly 75,000 veteran families make the South Carolina Lowcountry their home.

  1. It’s Ronald McDonald House—for Veterans
Just as the Ronald McDonald House provides a residence for families of children receiving care at local hospitals, Fisher House does the same for veterans. What better way to show our gratitude and support for their service than by easing concerns and making them comfortable during a medical crisis.

  1. A Little Goes a Long Way
A month-long stay could cost a family thousands of dollars if they were in a hotel, but, at Fisher House, it’s free. Here‘s where you come in. For just a few bucks, for example, your contribution can provide families with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant and other essentials allowing them to remain focused on the health and recovery of their loved one.

  1. Supporting Fisher House Ensures Its Success
Fisher House is a great resource, and it’s only been around for about a year. Its 16 rooms are nearly always at capacity, so there is a demonstrated need for its services in our community. We support the mission and want to see it continue. You can help.

  1. It’s So Easy!
Henry Stuhr Funeral Home is making it simple for you to support it, too: purchase as many supplies as you like and drop them off at any of our four locations conveniently spread throughout Charleston County. Wherever you live or work in the Charleston area, you will find a drop-off point nearby. This Veteran‘s Day, help us help Fisher House continue to serve our Lowcountry veterans and their families.

Stuhr Funeral Home, a trusted name in funeral service & Veteran’s services for over 150 years, is committed to providing quality arrangements to honor loved ones and family traditions, and to serving the community it has called home since Reconstruction. With a staff that includes 17 veterans, Stuhr values members of the military, active and retired.
