The Stuhr family is committed not only to providing quality funeral service, but also to investing time and talent in the community. Now in its fifth generation, the family leadership of J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. have a combined 140 years of service to the community. Our four chapels, two crematories, memorial garden and dedicated staff of funeral professionals make up the largest funeral service provider in the state, and each day we strive to earn the trust of those who turn to us for assistance.

Stuhr continues the tradition of personalized service to Lowcountry families under the leadership of four Stuhr family members. William Sanderson Stuhr, Sr. serves as CEO, John A. Stuhr, Jr. is President, Catherine L. Stuhr serves as Vice-President and William Sanderson Stuhr, Jr. is Secretary/Treasurer.

Stuhr Funeral Home employs approximately 85 caring staff members at its five locations, crematory, and cemetery. We have an active Advanced Planning (Pre-Need) Program, educating families on the importance of planning ahead while offering them the opportunity to save on funeral expenses. We also provide families with the unique professional service of an Aftercare Program which assists with filing for family benefits, conducts support groups, makes home visits, and offers a comforting presence to those in grief.

Our firm’s active membership in state and national organizations helps maintain a high level of integrity and personalized quality service. J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. is a member of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association (SCFDA), the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) and the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). By invitation, we are also members of the Selected Independent Funeral Homes.

Stuhr Officers

The Stuhr officers are involved not only in the family business, but are active in the community as well,. They serve as members and officers in a diverse range of organizations throughout the greater Charleston area.

William S. “Sandy” Stuhr, Sr. joined the family business in 1958 and is currently CEO and Chairman of the Board. He is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP), past president of the SC Funeral Directors Association (SCFDA) and a Former Board member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes. John A. “Johnny” Stuhr began with the company in 1965 and currently serves as President of the company, and is a former member of the SC Board of Funeral Service. Catherine L. Stuhr has been a Licensed Funeral Director with the company since 1993 and currently serves as Vice President. Catherine currently serves on the Board of Directors of ECCO, the Trident Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees, and is a charter member of the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club. William S. “Sandy” Stuhr, Jr. joined the company in 1976 and is currently Secretary/Treasurer of the firm.

Managing Directors

Robert E. “Bob” Parks, CFSP, joined the company in 1977 and now serves as the Managing Director of Stuhr’s Downtown Charleston Chapel. He has served as President of the SC State Board of Funeral Service and President of the SCFDA.  He was a past chairman of NFDA’s Professional Conduct Committee and a former member of the NFDA Policy Board.

Martha A. Archibald, CFSP, joined the company in 2007 after 20 years of dedication to funeral service and is the Managing Director of our Mount Pleasant and North Area Chapels. She is a member of the Goose Creek Rotary Club and has served as President of the group. She is a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she serves as a lector.

Kimberly G. Knight joined the company in 2021 as a licensed funeral director after 16 years in funeral service. She is a member of Miles Road Baptist Church where her husband Sam serves on staff. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family, Taylor, Colton (Summer), Garret (Selena) and her granddaughter, Talley.

Todd Griffin, CFSP,  joined the company in 2020 and serves as the Managing Director of our West Ashley Chapel.  Todd and his wife Shelley have three children; Jessica, Anna and Hayden.

Additional Key Staff

Chrissy Anderson Line joined J. Henry Stuhr as the Controller in 2016. She has more than 16 years of experience in governmental Accounting. Chrissy is a member of the Charleston CFO Council and attends Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant.

Kate Darby came to J. Henry Stuhr as the Director of Administration in 2007. She has more than 19 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector serving as the Director of Institutional Development at the South Carolina Aquarium and as the General Manager of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. Kate serves as Treasurer for the Rotary Club of St. Andrews and attends St. Andrews Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Dru Strickland joined the staff of J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. in 1996 and is Director of Aftercare and Office Manager of Stuhr’s Mount Pleasant Chapel.  She is a member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242, Daughters of the Nile and the Lowcountry Senior Network.

Chrissy, Kate and Dru are all unlicensed key members of the Stuhr Funeral Home team and are here as a resource for all families in their time of need.
